Aloha Hawaii Home & Garden Network,
The road to one Oahu family’s dream kitchen remodel all started with a simple phone call to home remodeling professional Randall Omoto at locally owned Homeowners Design Center.

“They [the Crowell family] asked me to come to the house and take a look,”recalls Omoto, who shares that the original kitchen was a fairly large area with an “L-shape” to it, including a dining area in which the sitting space abutted a beautiful, large bay window.

“The first things I asked them about (the remodel) were, what they liked about the kitchen, and what they did not,”says Omoto. Mr. Crowell immediately responded with his desire to totally remove an entire wall, which he felt blocked the flow of the kitchen from the living room. After Omoto put together a mock rendering of Mr. Crowell's vision of a "J-shaped" remodeled space—using Homeowners Design Center’s 3D remodeling software—the family wasn’t sure that a J-shaped kitchen was indeed what they wanted after all. Omoto instead offered an alternative solution, which the Crowells loved.

The final kitchen remodel incorporates Diamond brand cabinets in a darkly stained chocolate cherry wood, and stylish quartz Viatera countertops—chosen for their easy, zero-maintenance and lovely, stone-like appearance. Modern yet affordable KitchenAid appliances, classy pendant lighting, and engineered floors were also added. Omoto points out that, “The engineered floors are nice, because they are pre-finished, so we can actually go ahead and install them, then walk on them as soon as they are installed.”

Omoto admits that it can be a challenge to take a space a homeowner is used to and try to create a new one that they would be pleased with. Happily, it was the Crowells’ son who described the great success of this kitchen remodel best, with his statement to his mother, “It’s unbelievable, you got all of the things you wanted!”, which they did, adding that the new kitchen island now serves the same purpose the old seating area used to do. Allowing the Crowells to look out the bay window every morning during breakfast like they always did.
